Eunice Minford – The Surgeon and The Minister
NAME: Eunice J Minford
Consultant General Surgeon
I hail from the Emerald Isle and live amidst the forty shades of green and beside the Irish sea so blue – just perfect for a farmer’s daughter and lover of nature. Solitude and silence are my friends just as much as being in the party, dancing and grooving with loved ones or enjoying an evening eating delicious delicacies with friends. Fun, friendship and food are favourite forays. I’ve a cheeky sense of humour with a playful and light-hearted approach to life. My aesthetic style and effortless attention to detail shine through my love of harmonising an outfit with accessories – knowing that the best accessory is the love that shines from my sparkling green eyes! They always knock the socks off all the others and naturally complement every outfit I wear.
It is love that lights my fire, that has healed my ills and made me a much better person in every way – something that just continues to deepen and unfold. It is the ground of my being – it is the very essence of who I am – it is the true source of wisdom that far surpasses my previously limited mental view of life. It is my raison d’etre, it gets me up in the morning ready for another day of action, it feeds me nurturing foods and it tucks me in tenderly at night for a restful sleep.
Professionally I work as a Consultant General Surgeon in a busy District General Hospital in Northern Ireland. I graduated from Aberdeen University Medical School with distinction in Surgery and trained in General and Transplant Surgery in Aberdeen, Newcastle upon Tyne, Birmingham, London and New York. As a trainee I loved nothing more than being up to my elbows inside someone’s belly – mending and fixing, removing and repairing.
I have also trained as an Interfaith Minister and Spiritual Counsellor and obtained an MA in Applied Spirituality. In addition I have trained in the Esoteric Healing Arts with Universal Medicine – the premier organisation in the world for training in esoteric medicine, where philosophy, science and religion are known to be different aspects of the one true source of wisdom. I love to expand my horizons and stretch my thinking and my views in order to get to the heart and truth of any matter or issue. Truth, like love, makes my heart sing, my cells tingle and is joy to my ears – nay – not just my ears – for my whole body resonates when Truth is delivered or spoken. Just as I use a knife and fork as the tools to eat my dinner, one complementing the other, so too do I use love and truth to carve my way through life, to inform my choices and my way of living.
In surgery, I have been there and got the T-shirt so to speak and the rose-tinted spectacles are off. That said, I realise more and more the enormous privilege I have in being able to operate on someone and play a part in their restoration to health and healing, whilst also knowing the true healer is within. I have walked my own path of “Physician Heal Thyself” and thus know it is possible for all.
I provide one to one consultations and talks to the public on matters pertaining to health and Ageless Wisdom teachings as the Soulful Doctor. I write blogs on a wide array of topics and sometimes I like to stir it up a bit, be thought provoking and challenge some of the currently accepted beliefs and ways of life. Sure nothing would ever change in life if no-one gave it a wee shake now and then? I have a number of books on the go (that I have written, not reading!) . . . so any agents or publishers interested in a wild story get in touch!
I am also passionate about doctor’s health and wellbeing and firmly believe this starts with how we train our medical students. I am a pioneer in self-care in the medical profession and know it can both prevent burnout and resurrect those already burnt out and exhausted and enable people to work hard not only without getting drained and exhausted but feeling vital and vibrant. The role model I am today is a far cry from how I was as a trainee – for the better, and so I know it is possible for true change to occur as I have lived it. And of course, in my opinion,
